Step Four: Adding details

Now I need to start adding details such as feathers. I create a new, empty layer for these so that I can make adjustments to them without fear of messing up the rest of the image. bird

 

bird After I add feather details, I create yet another new layer. On this layer I use the Airbrush to add more shading where it's needed and also to soften the lines that make up the feathers.

Below is a close-up of the wing. As you can see, the lines of the feathers aren't perfect, nor do they have to be. I just use different shades of grey to paint some quick, curved lines to give the impression of feathers...
