Reader's Web Site Gripes1) Sites that have frames that don't go away when you leave and that you can't turn off! -Beth R. (Note from The Stablegirl: Beth is right; opening someone else's page inside your frames is rude and offensive to other site owners and annoying to your visitors.) 2) People who are so into copywriting their webpages that they put that "block" on so it disables your browsers capability to right click on it and do a view source... I feel very uncomfortable with the fact they are able to disable a part of my browser that is on my computer from their website! Also, if that can be done, why can't they make it so that they are only disabling the function of doing a copy of the graphic or webpage? There are times when I want to see how someone did something interesting! That is the best way I learn HTML! Not from a book but from the internet itself! And I get real annoyed when those people put that little message on stating "You may not take my images" when you do try to do the right click... It's insulting that they automatically presume I am trying to steal their graphics! -BubblyBabs (Note from The Stablegirl: I agree with this one emphatically. I can certainly sympathize with people not wanting their images stolen, but disabling the right-click is going way too far. It's very presumptuous to assume that anyone who's right-clicking is image-stealing. I (and a lot of other people I know) browse by using the right button to open new windows if a link looks interesting and we just want to quickly check it out, but it's impossible to do that with the right-click disabled. When I find myself at a site like that, I just leave rather than mess with it, and I suspect lots of other people do the same.. ) 3) One of my gripes is when I can't control the music... I ALWAYS make it so that you can see the controls so a person can turn if off after it's played a few times but always make it loop infinitely in case the person likes it and wants it played (I also find it annoying when I'm listening and reading and then the music just stops and suddenly there's silence)... -BubblyBabs (Note from The Stablegirl: This is precisely why I've never bothered to install a sound card on my computer...) 4) Menus please? -Paul (Note from The Stablegirl: Paul also sent in some good gripes about browsers: "It would be nice if browsers had a 'Load only images under XXX Kb' option. Why didn't Microsoft add a spelling checker to outlook express? (yes I know I need one!) and why do Microsoft and Netscape insist on adding their own extensions to HTML, Java etc. instead of concentrating on button layout, ease of use and features?" I particularly like the idea of being able to only load images of a certain size. Heck, I'd be willing to PAY for that feature! Netscape, are you listening?!) 5) In respone to my Gripe about underlined words that aren't links: What you should be complaining about is when web designers change the status bar to say something other than where the link goes. -Daniel Watters (Note from The Stablegirl: This is another I agree with 100%! I hate not being able to tell where a link goes, i.e. whether it goes off-site or whether it's an e-mail link or a link to a file or what...)
