Step Six: Adding details

Now that most of the shading is done, I need to start adding details such as eyes and nostrils. I create a new, empty layer for these so that I can make adjustments to them without fear of messing up the rest of the image. I use the Paintbrush to draw the details and then I use the Airbrush and the Smudge tool to soften them.

At this point I decide that I'm also not happy with the ears. I think he needs another ear showing, so I paint one in and shade it with the same techniques I used for the body.

I also decide that he looks kind of silly without any hair, so I use the Paintbrush tool to paint a mane and forelock. (I use very dark grey for the base color and then I use a lighter grey to paint individual hairs to give it some texture.)
